Dark circles under the eyes are a common problem that affects just
about everybody. While many people attribute dark circles under the eye
to fatigue, the truth is that there are a variety of reasons that they
can form. Once they begin to appear, it is difficult to erase them,
leaving the skin appearing older and tired. In fact, fatigue is actually
one of the less common reasons why dark bags and circles first form
under the eyes. Here are some of the most common causes:
- Allergies
- Genetics (dark under-eye circles can just run in a family)
- Smoking/Alcohol use
- Sickness
- Iron-deficiency
- Side effects from medications
- Nasal congestion (darkens the veins around the eye and nasal areas)
- Pigmentation irregularities
- Overexposure to the sun (increases melanin production, which is the pigment that gives skin its color)
-
Thinning skin/loss of collagen (which causes reddish-blue blood
vessels to become more visible through the thin skin of the eye area)
While
these causes for dark under-eye circles seem serious, most of the time
they will not cause any serious damage to your skin. You should not see a
doctor unless the over-the-counter treatments do not work. There are
numerous solutions for dark under-eye circles, including the following:
Laser Therapy - Laser
therapy is a common solution for dark-under eye circles. While it is
effective, it is incredibly expensive and there is no guarantee that the
dark circles will not come back.
Skin Creams - Another
effective treatment for dark under-eye circles are skin creams. There
are numerous skin creams on the market that can reduce the appearance of
bags and dark circles under the eyes. Some of the best-rated treatment
options include Hylexin, Eyeliss, and Matrixyl.
Be careful when
looking at skin creams though, as there are many products that cannot
provide the results they promise. Always read the labels of the product
and research a skin cream before purchasing. Hylexin, Eyeliss, and
Matrixyl were all chosen based upon user reviews and the all-natural
formulations they have, which make them incredibly effective. They are
all patented ingredients that have undergone extensive research and
clinical studies.
Makeup - Makeup is considered a
solution for dark circles under the eye, although it is certainly not a
treatment. Makeup only hides dark circles - it will not actually get rid
of them. Therefore, many people use makeup in conjunction with skin
creams until their dark circles are removed.
